My research has focused on the role of nutrition in chronic disease prevention and control. As a result, I have been collaborated in multicenter clinical trials and other studies that address translation of care recommendations into health care for people with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and obesity. I have found it particularly rewarding to be an investigator in the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, the Diabetes Prevention Program, and the Women’s Health Initiative.
My current investigator-initiated research includes 1) a clinical trial to compare low fat and low carbohydrate diets in diabetes management, 2) evaluation of telephone support to reinforces medical nutrition therapy for overweight adolescents at risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease and 3) evaluation of simplified tools to promote addressing nutrition in primary care and community setting focusing on Weight, Activity, Variety and Excess.
