Interests: Research involving human subjects, multinational research, ethics in reproductive health, ethical aspects of research and treatment of HIV/AIDS, human rights. Dr. Macklin is an adviser to the World Health Organization and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), an elected member of the Institute of Medicine, and past president of the International Association of Bioethics.

Shoshana Trachtenberg Frackman Faculty Scholar,
Dr. Ruth Macklin is the Trachtenberg Frackman Faculty Scholar, with responsibility for teaching and research in bioethics, organizing an annual lecture at AECOM by a distinguished scholar in the field, and for conductiong an annual essay contest open to medical students throughout the United States and Canada. An award is given for the best essay on the physician-patient relationship.
